I have written this as a practical, pragmatic guide for someone looking to train for their first IRONMAN triathlon, including over 100 training tips and common mistakes.
I have collated the information and experience from a decade of helping athletes complete their first IRONMAN into this short guide, with chapters covering swimming, cycling, running, strength, training and nutrition. IRONMAN is not simply a test of fitness, it is also a challenge to ensure that you are keeping various plates spinning at once.
The book is written by me, Simon Olney, a British Triathlon High Performing Coach, IRONMAN Certified Coach, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Level 4 Personal Trainer and Certified Nutrition Coach. I wanted to create a resource to help those with no (or very little) experience in the three sports to get started, covering the basics other coaches tend to miss.
Rather than focusing on high level discussions around periodisation, cellular function and other subjects you really don’t need to know as a first timer, I keep to simple, pragmatic advice that you can action.
